From 1678 the Castle of Good Hope was the centre of civilian, administrative and military life at the Cape, until the settlement grew and some functions and activities moved away from the Castle.
Today the Castle of Good Hope houses the regional headquarters of the South African Army in the Western Cape, the famous William Fehr Collection of historic artworks, the Castle Military Museum and ceremonial facilities for traditional Cape Regiments.
The Castle of Good Hope is a service orientated public entity, striving to optimize its tourism potential and accessibility to the public and to preserve and protect its cultural and military heritage.
The Castle is conveniently located in the city centre, close to bus and rail stations.
