This zinc headstone is located in Salem's Pioneer Cemetery and marks the graves of George Russell (Jul 9, 1867 - Sep 30, 1900) and his mother Mrs. E.C. Russell (1832 - Mar. 23, 1900). The marker is in excellent condition.
Obituary of George Russell:
Per the IOOF Register of Burials: George N. Russell, age 33, died at Mill Street, Salem, Oregon of consumption at the residence of his brother-in-law, Wm. Pettit.
Obituary of Mrs. E.C. Russell:
"At the Salem hospital, at 6 a.m., Friday, March 23, 1900, of paralysis, Mrs. E.C. Russell, aged 67 years. The deceased came to Oregon from Iowa in 1899 and has since resided in Salem. About three months ago she was stricken with paralysis and was removed to the hospital. The deceased is survived by three daughters and a son. Mrs. B.B. Henry, of Shambough, Iowa, Mrs. Lillian Pettit, of Salem, and Geo. Russell of Salem. Funeral services will be conducted in the Central Congregational church at 2 o’clock this afternoon by Rev. T.H. Henderson. The remains will be given interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery." -Oregon Statesman Mar. 24, 1900
