Located in the heart of the University of Nevada, Reno campus is the University Quadrangle, also known as 'The Quad'. this grassy area is one of two landscape features that are included in the University Historic District.

The following verbiage comes from the University website that describes this building's history:

Originally the heart of the campus, this beautiful area is the traditional setting for Commencement activities, and provides a pleasant place for picnics, concerts, and quiet reflection. Since 1987, the University of Nevada, Reno Quadrangle has been listed as a "Jeffersonian academic village" on the National Register of Historic Places, as the campus core follows Thomas Jefferson's design for the University of Virginia Lawn. The lovely, giant elm trees were planted in 1908. When the University was in its infancy, it was strictly forbidden for underclassmen to ever set foot on the Quad; over the years, this tradition has loosened somewhat to allow the feet of all students (as well as a few dogs chasing after wayward frisbees) to touch the Quad’s sod, which members of Buildings & Grounds affectionately refer to as “Mother Quad.”

I visited this campus in the dead of winter so was not able to appreciate the green grass and stately trees that follow both east and west sides of The Quad.
