"Classificada como IIP desde 1992, a "Barragem romana de Abobeleira" foi construída na embocadura da rib.ª de Sanjurce, no termo de Abobeleira, nas proximidades da cidade de Chaves. Descoberto há relativamente pouco tempo, este sítio foi apenas objecto de escavações arqueológicas nos finais dos anos oitenta do século XX.
O monumento é constituído por uma comporta com cerca de dezassete metros de altura, um vão de noventa metros e uma largura máxima de pouco mais de sete, formando uma albufeira com cerca de 547 000 m3. Toda a estrutura é composta de quatro muradas paralelas, com uma espessura de 60 cm cada, edificadas com blocos graníticos em opus incertum e ligados por opus caementicium. Estes muros encontram-se dispostos de forma radial ao longo da encosta, tendo sido travados através dos contrafortes existentes na parte interna. Infelizmente, estes elementos estruturais apresentam-se bastante degradados, sobretudo devido à recolha secular de pedras efectuada para variadas construções executadas em povoações circundantes.
É possível que esta barragem tenha sido edificada com o propósito muito específico de abastecer a antiga cidade romana de Chaves, Aquae Flaviae, para aonde seria transportada através de um canal localizado a jusante da amurada, com um traçado estimado em cerca de 4 100 m, do qual se preservou apenas um tramo escavado no próprio afloramento da parte inicial do aqueduto."

These walls are arranged radially along the hillside , having been caught by existing inside buttresses . Unfortunately , these structural elements have become quite degraded , mainly due to the secular collecting stones made for various constructions performed in surrounding villages .
It is possible that this dam has been built with the very specific purpose of supplying the ancient Roman city of Chaves , Aquae Flaviae to where it would be transported through a channel located downstream of the fence , with an estimated stroke at about 4100 m , which is preserved in only one leg dug himself outcrop of the initial part of the aqueduct ."
