The water tower feature a picture of Freddy Fender and proudly proclaims that San Benito is the Hometown of Freddy Fender.
Freddy Fender was at the groundbreaking for the city's new $1.4 million water tower that would be dedicated to him, San Benito's favorite son. The original plan for a guitar has been jettisoned in favor of the musician's painting, two of them, with the lettering "Hometown of Freddy Fender" in purple and gold.
