This giant black bird sculpture has loomed over the Black Bird Shopping Center parking lot since the mid-1960s. I would guess it to be about 20 feet tall. It was inspired by the bird sculptures found at Yard Birds, a store in Centralia, Washington. The bird is sometimes used to hold sale-related signs and objects, and during the Christmas season it can be found carrying a giant candy cane and a rod that says "Ho Ho Ho." A dedication plaque on the base proclaims that the sculpture is in memory of Lee Hobbs, designer and builder.
