Dieses Ehrenmal für die gefallenen Soldaten des ersten Weltkrieges aus den Stadtteilen Bramfeld uns Steilshoop wurde von Nationalsozialisten im Jahre 1935 errichtet. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde es um einen runden Stein und einer Gedenkinschrift für die Gefallenen des Zweiten Weltkrieges erweitert.
Auf einer erhöhten Ebenene, halbkreisförmig umgeben von steinernen Säulen und Bügen steht auf einem Sockel eine überlebensgroße Soldatemfigur, die sich auf ihren Karabiner stützt. An drei der Säulen stehen auf Marmortafeln die Namen der Gefallenen.
Das Mahnmal selber ist oft Grund vieler Streitereien Bramfelder Bürger und Initiativen, da es einigen Bürgern zu Machtverherrlichend ist. Rechts-orientierte Gruppierungen hingegen versammeln sich hier besonders am Volkstrauertag für ihre eigenen Zwecke.
Abseits dieser Streitereien und der Hintergründe ist es dennoch ein imposantes Mahnmal über dessen Sinn und Zweck sich jeder Besucher seine eigene Meinung bilden sollte.
This memorial for the fallen of the first world war was erected by nationalsocialist in 1935. After World War II, a round stone was added with an inscription also remembering the fallen of WWII.
On a raised platform, circled by several pillars and arches is standing an oversized soldier, leaning on his rifle. Attached to three of the pillars, marble tables bear the names of the fallen.
The memorial itself is often reason for conflict in the populace of Bramfeld, as many see this memorial as too self-glorifying. Right-aligned groups and neo-nationalsocialists meet here on special days for their own reasons.
Aside from these disputes and arguments, this is still an impressing memorial, which every visitor should reflect on himself.
