The First Christian Church was organized in December, 1899. For years, they met in the high school building, until their first church building was constructed in November, 1902. The photo gallery shows a concrete stone from this original building, showing the date A.L. 5902 (1902). The current property was purchased in the 1930s and construction was begun in May 1946 for this building. It was dedicated on November 30, 1947.
The cornerstone, located near the original entrance on the east side, reads: FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1899 - 1947.
The church has continued to grow and has purchased additional property adjacent to this building. An education building was completed in May 1963, a Fellowship Hall in January, 1979 and a new Sanctuary building to the east in September 1996.
A unique focal point of this 1947 building is the brick, which has been laid in an uneven pattern, with bricks protruding from the wall. It is a fascinating construction technique. The church grounds are beautifully kept at this prominent intersection in Edmond. Four bronze sculptures are on display on the grounds.
