Malang is a pleasant and quiet town, near a major volcano, that is linked to the wider world via, train, bus, and plane. Unlike the other options the town train station is smack dap in the centre, and is really the best travel option.

The station building runs along the lines, is clearly of some age, but is well maintained. Tickets can be purchased (slowly) here, as long as ID is provided (passport for foreigners). There are several lines running from and through Malang, most lead west, into central Java. The ticket counter is open to the public, but access to the waiting area and tracks is restricted.
