This large bronze armillary sphere sundial is located in the centre of the herb garden - surrounded by rosemary. The sphere is approximately one metre in diameter and titled at nearly 38 degrees south of the vertical to align it with its position.
It has 15 minute (1/4 hour) divisions, and the time is read from the shadow cast by the central bar. An analemma at the base of the sundial helps users compensate for the Earth's imperfect orbit around the Sun.
The sundial, which was installed in 1987, was designed by Studio Masse and funded by the Herb Society of Victoria.
Sundial Type: Armillary Sphere - series of rings in plane of equator
