The Hill Envelope Company Factory building was built in 1890. The architects were Fuller and Delano. It is a 4 1/2 story brick building with a flat roof. The building is pretty plain from and ornamentation standpoint.
The Hill Envelope Company has roots to Dr Russell Hawes, who invented an envelope folding machine in 1846. In 1866 Wade H Hill entered into the Hill, Devoe & Company, which was the descendant firm of Hawe's business. They were originally located on Grafton St. By 1869 Hill became the sole owner of the business and renamed the company to WH Hill Co. It became one of several envelope companies in Worcester which merged in the U.S. Envelope Company. This company operated in this building all the way into the 1970's.
Today this building has been converted to apartments called Canal Lofts.
