The Wandandian area was first settled in 1820s by white settlers farming large tracts of land with the help of convict labour. The town boomed during the goldrush of the 1850s but today remains the service centre to the surrounding district which in the main farms sheep and beef. The village takes its name from the Wandandian people, the traditional owners of much of the land now known as the City of Shoalhaven.
Wandandian was first established as a postal district in 1860. This building served as the post office from 1935 until 1979. Today it is a farmhouse serving pony poo.
