The Raurimu Railway Station is situated at the "Foot of the Spiral" an engineering feat on the Main Trunk Line between Raurimu and National Park. This feature elevates the railway line 213 metres over a distance of 11 kms in a series of curves, two tunnels and a full 360 degree spiral. The Spiral was constructed from 1905 to 1907 and has remained unchanged since then, incapable of improvement by today's engineers.
The Raurimu Station's claim to fame is that it is positioned right at the foot of The Spiral.
