Sushi Hon is a neighborhood sushi bar, owned by locals. It is NOT part of a chain.
The prices are fair -- we thought they were a little bit less than what we would pay for the same items in the United States. The menu is heavy on sushi biut also offers cooked Japanese fare such as grilled teriyaki beef and chicken, tempura and udon soups, and soba noodle dishes.
Blasterz ALWAYS eat the weird and unique foods of the locals. On this trip, we had Tim Horton's (never been) a Poutine (never tried -- Butter chicken one was great but regular was good too), Manitoba wines (never had, but yummy), and a Sushi Pizza (never heard of and never had). Sushi Pizza sounds weird but tastes great. Blasterz highly recommend the #10 Sushi Pizza at Sushi Hon.
We loved ALL our Canadian gustatory adventures, and will bring the idea of Sushi Pizza back to Texas . . . but . . .
Mama Blaster (who makes her own sushi) will change it up: She will crisp the rice in a pan with Pam instead of deep-frying a disk of frozen sushi rice; she will add more rice dressing to the sushi rice; she will add a few drops of Tabasco sauce, a tablespoon of Sriracha Chili Sauce, a dash of hot sesame oil and a sprinkle of Togarishi powder to the chopped tuna on top of the pizza; she will LOSE the generous drizzle of mayo; she will KEEP the drizzle of sweet Thai thick soy sauce; and finally will LOSE the fried sweet-potato-hair garnish, topping her sushi pizza instead with a mix of shredded carrots and salted cucumbers. Maybe she'll put a little rice vinegar in the cucumbers. We'll see.
Blasterz also had seafood udon soup, teriyaki beef, Eel Chirashi sushi entree and spicy tuna roll. Everything was impeccably fresh and beautifully presented with gracious and prompt service.
Being Texans, of course the spicy tuna roll was not NEARLY spicy enough for us!!! For regular non-leather-tongued humans, the spice level was probably perfect.
