This statue of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was created to commemorate her 1970 visit to Manitoba and speech before the Provincial Assembly. It was placed in front of the Centennial Concert hall, where it remained for 40 years.
In 2010 the statue was moved and replaced here, in the center of the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens next to Manitoba's Government House, in downtown Winnipeg. The Queen unveiled this statue in its new location on her visit to Manitoba in 2010.
A dual-language bronze plaque on the base of the statue reads (in English) as follows:
"A statue of Queen Elizabeth II in the gardens adjacent to Government House was sculpted by Manitoba artist Leo Mol in commemoration of Her Majesty’s address to the Legislative Assembly during the provincial centennial in 1970.
Originally situated at the Centennial Concert Hall, the statue was relocated to its present site in 2010.
