This sculpture is part of a monument in the Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery. The work is on a high octagonal marble base with walls surrounding it. The walls have engraved plates with memorials to the deceased...perhaps folks who have been cremated?
The sculpture is entitled "Assumption of Mary" and depicts the mother of Jesus being lifted by a whirlwind while her gaze and outstretched arms look upwards.
Unfortunately there is no sign at the site indicating the artist or date.
