Over 400 years ago, a flood destroyed the only bridge in Forbach. Zimmermann people were sent to Augsburg, there to visit the model of a flood-proof suspension bridge.

However, 200 years later, in 1778 the construction of a covered wooden bridge was realized without the central pillar.
This bridge turn held nearly 200 years and was in 1954/55 demolished and rebuilt according to the original plans.

The covered wooden bridge thus impresses for over 200 years, the Forbach townscape. It is in your design unique in Germany and even in Europe. A view from the banks of the Murg up into the arch gives an impression of the high Zimmermann art of that time.

Responsible for the maintenance of the bridge the communities Forbach, Bermersbach and Gausbach were ( = the " Forbach parish "). The destroyed bridge was constructed in the then customary form as Uncovered Murgsteg for people and carts again . The construction of a flood-proof bridge becomes more urgent .

1777 to begin the preparatory work on the rocks for the bridge foundations for a new bridge . In the fall of 1778 the new covered wooden bridge was opened. Who went over the bridge or drove , had to pay " tolls " . The bridge tolls received the member towns of the " Church of the game" . The money was used for the upkeep of the bridge.

1875 was officially decreed that only Forbach and Gausbach have to pay as the main user for the maintenance of the bridge.
