On January 17, 1953, three trainmen were killed when a landslide took their engine (NWP 184) in to the the icy Eel River near Scotia. Following the accident the engine was scrapped and the bell was included in a memorial the trainmen which was placed at the Scotia Depot. When the Depot was later moved here to Rohner Park the memorial was also moved.
