Gauging Station - Wabash River, Bluffton, IN - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

The "Mighty Wabash" River has this gauge station located in a nice park with a walking/biking paved trail adjacent to the river. The city of Bluffton is just a mile or two west of this gauge station. The Wabash runs north very near Bluffton. Since the terrain slopes somewhat southward, any flooding from the river would certainly put residential homes and businesses alike at great risk for water damage and thus make the area rather undesirable. The Wabash is relatively wide throughout this region and kept free of lose debris from bush and logs which would raise the risk of flood from heavy rains or snow melt. The gauging station is strategically placed east of Bluffton or on the upriver side. Should rising water begin to indicate flooding conditions, the real-time data from this station would allow the city of Bluffton to have a due a timely notice so countermeasures could be prepared to spare as much damage as possible.
