The Eel River and Eureka Railroad company was organized in 1882 and constructed this depot in 1893. In 1903, the Eel River and Eureka Railroad became part of the San Francisco and Northwestern Railway which in 1907 became the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. With the end of passenger service the depot was abandoned by the Northwestern Pacific Railroad in 1965 and the City of Fortuna purchased the depot and moved it's original location at the south end of 7th Street to Rohner Park as a Bicentennial project where it is now the Fortuna Depot Museum.
