The plaque contains text in both English and French; the English text reads:

This terminal building was officially opened November 17, 1984 by Kenneth James, MP Sarnia-Lambton, on behalf of Transportation Minister Don Mazankowski, by the Honourable Andrew Brandt, MPP for Sarnia and Ontario Minister of the Environment, by Marceil G. Saddy, Mayor of Sarnia and by Ray Whitnall, Reeve of Sarnia Township.

Sarnia (Chris Hadfield) Airport, (IATA: YZR, ICAO: CYZR), is located 4 nautical miles (7.4 km; 4.6 mi) east northeast of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. The airport is classified as an airport of entry by NAV CANADA and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency. CBSA officers at this airport currently can handle aircraft with no more than 30 passengers. The airport was renamed after astronaut, and Sarnia native, Chris Hadfield in 1997.

Kenneth Albert James (born 5 August 1934 in Sarnia, Ontario) was a Progressive Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a businessman, farmer, marketing and sales manager by career. James served as reeve and councillor for the Township of Sarnia for a decade. In federal politics, he represented the Ontario riding of Sarnia—Lambton where he was first elected in the 1984 federal election and re-elected in 1988, therefore becoming a member in the 33rd and 34th Canadian Parliaments.

Andrew S. "Andy" Brandt (born June 11, 1938) is a former politician and public administrator who has served in a number of roles in the province of Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Progressive Conservative from 1981 to 1990, and was a cabinet minister in the governments of Bill Davis and Frank Miller. He later served as interim leader of the Progressive Conservative Party from 1987 to 1990 before being appointed as Chairman and CEO of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario and serving in that capacity longer than anyone. Before making the leap to provincial politics, he served as alderman and later as the 63rd mayor for the city of Sarnia.
