At the corner of St. Francis and St. George Streets, and directly across from the St. Francis Inn, there is a small park with a sign that proclaims "St. Francis Park". The park includes a water fountain, a brick-paved strolling path, an old topped well that still sports it's metal bracket from days when buckets were lowered into the well, and far back into the corner is the aged, cracked and moss covered statue of St. Francis of Assisi, holding two birds.
The old plaque at St. Francis' feet reads:
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace...
Where there's hatred let me sow love...
Where there is injury, pardon...where there is doubt, faith...where there is dispair, hop, where there is darkness, light and where there is sadness, joy.
