1887: The United States Senate allows the Navy to lease Pearl Harbor as a naval base.
1897: "The Stars and Stripes Forever', the American patriotic march by John Philip Sousa, is performed for the first time
1907: Robert Baden-Powell leads the first Scout camp on Brownsea Island, England.
1917: United States ambassador to the United Kingdom, Walter Hines Page, is shown the intercepted Zimmermann Telegram, in which Germany offers to give the American Southwest back to Mexico if Mexico declares war on the United States.
