In 1842 the Unitarians built their own church which became the Third Meeting House. The Meeting House that was built in 1783, moved to the east side of the Town Green, burned in 1845. In 1908 the Third Meeting House, the one that is this waymark, burned during a severe drought which prevented saving the church. A parish meeting was held a week later and the folks raised enough money to rebuild the church, which is the present day church.
