If you're traveling through Susanville and you have a craving for soft-serve ice cream, you can't go wrong with the Frosty Mill. This establishment has been in operation for as long as I can remember and our family has stopped here many times over the years on the way home for an ice cream treat for the road.
It had been a number of years since we had stopped here and our family decided to see what ice cream treats they had to offer. We were disappointed to hear that they don't serve dipped cones during the winter months. BUT... they MORE than made up for the shortcoming with the BIGGEST soft-serve ice cream cone I've ever seen in my life. SERIOUSLY. When I ordered a large chocolate cone and a large butterscotch swirl cone, I had no idea what I was about to witness. The employee asked if I wanted the cones in cups.
I replied, "Um... Sure, I guess."
I was glad I agreed because she proceeded to swirl the ice cream on the cone... and swirl... and swirl... and swirl. I started laughing at this embarrassing moment, mainly because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. After each cone reached about 10 INCHES HIGH, she flipped them upside down into Styrofoam cups and said, "That'll be $5.60."
$5.60 FOR THESE TWO MONSTROSITIES?!?!?!? A cheap treat for sure!
I can guarantee you that our family will be back again for another ice cream treat when we pass through Susanville again.
They offer about six to eight different flavors of swirled soft serve.
