Records show that the postal service first opened in Broken Hill on 9 May 1892.
According to the Heritage Council of NSW:
Broken Hill Post Office is a two-storey, Flemish bond, red-brick corner building in the Federation Free Style with Arts and Crafts influence. There is an 26 metre high, square, heavy corner clock and bell tower that dominates the building and the streetscape.
Original construction of the one and two-storey corner building during 1890-92. The clocks were installed into the tower in 1902.
