This beautiful sandstone building was built in 1880, at a time when Wilcannia was one of the largest inland river ports in Australia. Sadly the township is much smaller today, especially with the decline in river flow and growth in road transport to the region.
The post office ceased operations in 1998 and a licensed post office operated out of the nearby petrol station.
In 2013, the council agreed to take over the running of the post office and relocated it back into the original building (
