This is one of the boxcars lining the Deschutes rails to trails path. As it was explained to me, it was simply easier for the rail companies to just abandon a car out here than to scrap it for recycling. It would seem that there were not as many environmental forces present when this act was practiced. This turned out to be a good thing, as the boxcar provides an excuse to take a break as you ride along.
