The Brokeoff Mountain Trailhead is located about a half mile north of the south entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park. This trailhead provides access to Brokeoff Mountain (3.5 miles).

The seven-mile (11.2 km) round-trip hike to Brokeoff Mountain leads up a remnant spine of an extinct volcano. Enormous in size, the ancient volcano, active 600,000 to 400,000 years ago, measured 11 miles across and towered to 11,500 feet. At the summit of Brokeoff (9,235 feet) you can get an idea of the volcano’s size by picking out the distant peaks of mounts Conard and Diller. Then on your map draw a circle connecting the two mounts with Brokeoff. The are circled will roughly represent the ancient volcano called Brokeoff Volcano (Mount Tehama). If you are seeking Lassen Peak-like panoramic views, but looking to escape the crowds, then you’ll find Brokeoff Mountain trail an excellent alternative. Here you will find mountain lakes, meadows, abundant wildflowers, and lush forests, which are rare to nonexistent along the Lassen Peak route.
