This is tunnel four out of five along the historic route of the railroad that was used to build Hoover Dam in the 1930s. It is now part of a hiking trail along the old roadbed.

In order to construct the railroad used in the erection of Hoover Dam, five tunnels were needed to bore through ridges that stood in the way. The tunnels were 25-feet in diameter in order to provide clearance for penstock sections or other over-sized pieces of equipment brought to the site by the railroad.
