The mural is directly opposite another I've posted - Child at Play but is by a different artist.

The mural depicts birds unique to Australia, an elephant & a crazy looking Bunyip with a collection of skulls. I didn't get a close up of the elephant as construction work blocked my way. The Australian animals are a kookaburra blindfolded, a lyrebird pretending to be a seagull (lyrebirds inhabit rainforest) & the mythological beast in Aboriginal Dreamtime - the Bunyip. The tree represents an Illawarra Flame, one of the few deciduous native species.

The mural was part of the Wonderwalls Festival held in Wollongong in November of this year. The website listed below says of the artist, Trait:

Trait is an artist from the Wollongong area, working with aerosol and acrylic.

Trait studied fine art at Wollongong West, focusing on photography and print making, his work was described by one teacher as ‘a view from the gutter’. He works mostly with aerosols, markers and acrylic paint on canvas, paper, wood and found objects.

Part of the artist collective know as ‘La’ Division’, Trait has participated in live art performances, worked creatively with musicians as well as collaborating on t-shirt designs and advertisements.

He has exhibited in numerous group shows including a wall painted for the pop-up ‘Attn’ group show in Wollongong.
Trait recently exhibited the ‘Washed Out’ group show with La’ Division at Lo-Fi and the Mickey Moused themed ‘Rat Race’ show in Darlinghurst. He currently has panels on the exterior of the Wollongong City Gallery that were painted as part of the Viva la Gong Festival in 2012. Most recently, Trait was involved in ‘Street Talk’ a project to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the IPAC building where he collaborated with street artists Sam Clouston and Fintan Magee.
