It is hard to overestimate the importance of the Lifeboat Station here. The sea has been the livelihood of Fleetwood for generations, and although commercial fishing is past the glory days, there are still many commercial and recreational vessels around these waters, and call-outs are frequent. In 2015 the station will acquire a new state-of-the-art all-weather Shannon class vessel to replace the retiring William Street after 26 years of service.
