This is an odd milestone located in Southeast Portugal, not far from the border with Spain.

This is a mysterious milestone. Why? First of all, because it looks brand new but it can't be. As far as I know they aren't being made for decades now. Second because it was ripped off from its location and it' snow lying by a strip of asphalt leading to a views watching platform.

It's an excellent sample to show us how strong the "root" of these milestones is. We all saw dozens of them in older roads, but it's hard to imagine the massive base in stone which stays buried on the soil.
