Standing in Powling Veterans Memorial Park is a life-size bronze statue depicting Civil War major general Jesse Lee Reno. This statue stands on a large granite boulder and bears a plaque on one side that reads:

THE RAILROAD NAMED THE TOWN RENO, TO HONOR MAJOR JESSE LEE RENOBORN APRIL 20, 1823 IN WHEELING, VIRGINIA, RENO GRADUATED 8TH IN HIS CLASS OF 59 AT WEST POINT. I tried to find out who the artist of this statue was and could not find any info online. Neither could I locate a signature or inscription on the statue itself. The statue of Reno is realistic and depicts him in uniform and staring into the distance, as if he's surveying a battlefield that he and his men are about to commence fighting on against the Confederacy. I found the depiction of his face a little unrealistic in comparison to the pictures of him one can find online. There are numerous websites that contain biographies of Reno and can be found here, here and here.
There are many monuments and memorials located within Powning Veterans Memorial Park to pause and reflect on while visiting this historic part of downtown Reno.
