This sculpture of King Louis iX (St. Louis) is located in the Mission San Luis Rey Museum.
Unfortunately there is no sign at the site indicating the artist, or date..or verifying that this is indeed King Louis. But the poster of this Waymark noticed that the crown and cape on the sculpture match the crown and design of the King's coat of arms as seen on Wikipedia. (
visit link) That website also indicates that these attributes are how Louis is usually depicted.
It is also difficult to determine what the sculpture is made of...perhaps paintedwood?
The work depicts a lifesized young man with crown, cape, sword in front of him as he carefully holds an object (perhaps the crown of thorns) with a white cloth. There are fleur-de-lyson the crown and blue cape.
