This is also a trail head that has two historical sites. The ruins of an old hotel and this is where the cow hides were dropped to the harbor below. There is a statue in the middle of the trail that is a memorial. The Hide Trail plaque says "This trail simulates one used by early natives to deliver cowhides to Yankee sailors who tossed them from these cliffs to crewmates on the beach below." The Dana Point Inn - 1930 plaque says "These arches were part of S.H. Woodruff's Resort Hotel - The Dana Point Inn. The stock market crash and the great depression halted construction, ending his dream. Part of the foundation, the hand poured concrete arches remain as a local landmark. Remnants of the 1920's rock path are visible from the bridge crossing the canyon." The Hide Drogher plaque says "New England sailors of the 1800's tossed locally raised cowhides from these cliffs to be traded for finished good carried by their ships."
