White Swan was the originaly the name of the inn on this place. On the place of the historical inn and brewery was build the department store in 1939. The Glass Palace with a reinforced concrete skeleton in the functionalist style was the largest and most modern shopping center in the Central and Eastern Europe in that time. It was possible to see the first escalator in Prague located in the building. The store opened in March 1939 and since then is in continuous operation up till now. The neon sign is reported as the oldest functional neon sign in Prague.
