A Virginia Department of Highways (Predecessor to Virginia Department of Transportation) Right-of-Way Marker.

This square VDH (Virginia Department of Highways) cement right-of-way marker is located in front of 3307 Chincoteague Road (Route 175), New Church, VA 23415 - the location of CACI at the time of this posting in March 2013. The marker is about a twelve inches above ground, clearly visible and about 20 feet from the edge of the Route 175 pavement. The marker is in poor condition. A photograph of a VDH marker in good condition from another location is included for comparison.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation's Web site, the Virginia Department of Highways name was used from 1927 until 1974 (47 years), then changed to Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation. In 1986, the agency was renamed to Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
