Visitors to downtown Reno might notice this recently relocated town clock that invites passersby to admire its interworkings as well as read a little about its history. At the base of three sides of the clock are inscriptions that read:
Ginsberg Jewelry Co. 1914-1971
Clock originally located at 133 North Virginia Street
November, 1935
Harry Ginsberg, Proprietor
In the mid 1900s, the clock was donated to Park Lane Mall
on Plumb Lane and South Virginia Street
by Sam Ginsberg who took over the family business
upon his father's death in 1954
In 2007, the clock was generously donated to the City of Reno by
M&H Realty Partners
Restored and relocated
to this location to mark the
50th Anniversary of the Club Cal-Neva Casino
April 1, 2012
By the Bill and Barbara Cavanaugh Thornton Family
A TIME FOR PEACE
The third side of the base lists the city council members of Reno.
I located an online history of this clock that can be read in more detail here.
This clock is a welcome addition in this part of Reno. There are nearby columns that make up an art piece containing historical pictures and verbiage highlighting the current and former buildings and structures that once existed in this two block radius.
