In the unorganized township of Grand Ridge and at a junction of two county roads is St. Mary's Mission Church.
The church is located at the junction of N 21st Rd and E 22nd Rd and about halfway between the cities of Marseilles and Streator, each several miles away. The church is located on the southeast corner of that intersection. There is a utility facility to the northwest, and corn or soy fields all around. Nary a house is visible from the corner.
The church is a white-clapboard wood church with a shingled peaked roof. The bell tower and front entrance is on the west side. The stained-glass windows on the side are tall and narrow with a pointed peak. An outhouse is off the south side of the church. The church has a mowed grass lawn with some trees and bushes. Two signs are installed - both stating that the church is St. Mary's in the Field.
Sources found indicated that this is a Catholic mission church of St. Columbia's Parish in Ottawa. It holds regular services at 5:30 pm Saturday night and 8:00 am on Sunday. The congregation was established in 1871. However, the sources did not confirm the age of the building, itself.
