According to the story behind this song, Malvina Reynolds and her husband were driving from their home in Berkeley, headed to La Honda, and took a route thru San Francisco and Daly City. Malvina was at the wheel but asked her husband to steer while she jotted down some lyrics which she later converted into this song, about all the look-alike homes on all the hillsides, which appeared to be cheaply and shoddily made, doubtful they would last twenty years.
