The four dishes were built during the Cold War in 1967 and partly in the 50s on a German anti-aircraft bunker . The transmitter was used to send messages from West Germany via the United Kingdom to the United States. Since the fall of Iron Curtain the complex is unused in the dunes after it has been transferred to the Ministry of Defence
in 2001 .
