St. Mary of Victories Church was built in 1843. The parish originally organized to serve the influx of German immigrant settling in the area. Over time the area surrounding the church became more industrial and the members of the parish moved to other areas, for many years the church fell on hard times. Following World War II and the Hungarian Revolution there was a large immigrant population of Hungarian who settled in the area and the church served this new population. The parish officially changed its name to St. Stephen of Hungary.
