The U. S. S. Sam Rayburn yielded its anchor in 1985 when it was decommissioned after serving a 22-year mission of peace.
The Polaris nuclear submarine was 425 feet long -- the largest of its kind when it was launched on December 20, 1963.
The anchor weighs 2300 pounds and the chain weighs 1000 pounds.
It was presented by the Department of the Navy in 1987.
