Located just off Crosby Ave in a parking lot is the main trailhead to the
OC&E Woods Line State Trail, Oregon's longest state park at over 105 miles in length. This trail is a result of the Rails to Trails organization that converted this former railway into a public park in the late 1990s (I know this because I designed their very first brochure in 1997). The OC&E website reads the following:
Welcome to the beautiful Oregon California & Eastern Woods Line State Trail, Oregon's longest state park, stretching 105-miles through Klamath and Lake Counties. This rails-to-trails conversion follows the old OC&E and Weyerhaeuser railroads from Klamath Falls to the Thompson Reservoir, passing through the communities of Olene, Dairy, Sprague River, Beatty, and Bly.
The OC&E Woods Line State Trail is a rails-to-trails conversion into a non-motorized path for walking, jogging, cycling, and equestrian use. The long, flat trails stretching through agricultural and forest areas are appealing for recreational development.
The Oregon State Parks website has a link to the OC&E Woods Line State Trail here.
I've accessed different parts of this trail over the years and it is pretty well maintained. This trail is paved for the first eight miles to Olene Gap and then converts to dirt and the occasional cinder rock. The paved section of the trail is very popular with locals for biking and rollerblading. The dirt part of the trail past Olene Gap is more popular for mountain bikers and horseback riding.
Enjoy!
