Known as a short bay-window style caboose, this one was used by the Missouri Pacific on mainline runs. Because there was no longer a need for sleeping quarters the "box" of the caboose was made smaller than previously, though the chassis size remained the same. This was to reduce upkeep and weight. It is very similar to a transfer caboose, but Mo-Pac didn't use transfer cabooses. It appears to have been put into service by Mo-Pac in late June of 1980 and appears further to have been built in the same year. It also appears to have been put on display in 2006 or 2007. It is one of 150 that MoPac owned or leased when taken over by Union Pacific.
How it got here and why it is here is unknown, as the Missouri Pacific didn't run in this area. It is part of a small railroad oriented park, named Valley Station Square, which includes other railroad paraphernalia, including a replica railroad waiting platform, complete with clock tower. We assume that Valley Station Square occupies the site of Valley's original railway station, as the tracks are adjacent.
