This building served as a skywatch observer post for the Ground Observer Corps during the Cold War years of 1956 to 1959. During those years there was a great fear of an attack by Russian bombers. The Distant Early Warning line of radars in the far north had yet to be established, so one approach was to establish numerous observation posts such as this one for detection by Mark 1, Model 1 human eyeball.
