Masaru Takiguchi was born in Osaka Japan in 1941. He showed an early interest in art. For practice, he carved some of the ancient Greek sculptures using firewood his father brought home. He later studied art formally at the Kyoto City College of Fine Arts, earning a B. A. in 1964 and an M. A. in 1966. In 1968 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Houston, TX. He was very involved in the local art scene and was soon invited to become a visiting professor of sculpture at the University of Houston, a position that he held several times. He had several large works commissioned there for public display. His favorite media for his abstract sculptures are wood and stone.
