This bridge was once part of the National Road 125 (EN125) a main road crossing Algarve from East to West. It was originally built in 1811 as mentioned in its date stone, and it was renovated a couple of times until the road was slightly moved (it runs about 100 m from the bridge) and the bridge was abandoned.
