At the southwest corner, where Jackson Place meets Pennsylvania Avenue, is a copy by Ferdinand Hamar of the memorial at Vendome, France, to Comte de Rochambeau, the Frenchman who joined his efforts with Lafayette's in fighting for American freedom -Washington, City and Capital, 1937, pg. 652.
The statue is located as described. General Comte de Rochambeau was the Commander-in-Chief of the French Expeditionary Force which came to help the American Continental Army. The statue was dedicated May 24, 1902 by President Theodore Roosevelt.
